How High?

Hi-tops are making a comeback this season and with Margiela pushing the boundaries with this liquid metal version, you can't help but notice. I haven't worn hi-tops in ages (maybe due to working in an office) but with these beauties on offer who can resist... I can until pay day.

My Latest...

I loved this Maria Francesca Pepe ring when I first saw it, its like a non threatening knuckle duster.

I've never heard of this jewellery brand before but I'm glad I had a look at their website because this is totally me! Their latest collection 'Poison' boasts of ethereal, feminine yet bold pieces and the images look like they have come off the pages of Elle.

Dress Down Style: Yasmin

Yasmin is still a fairly unknown singer but she's a regular on style spotter blogs. She knows what suits her (red lippy, top knots and bold accessories) and she mixes that in with the love of high street and vintage.

Love!

Mind your P's & Q's....

I came across this ASOS dress last week and was umming and ahhing over it to see if I did like it. By the way that's my new thing now, I won't buy it straight away, I let it sit with me for a couple days. In most cases I have bought the item in question but since this is in accordance with my style resolutions I don't see any problem with it. I'm loving the midi length on this bodycon and the print but I did think I've seen it somewhere before...

D&G Autumn/ Winter 2011

Professionally you have to say it was 'inspired by' but I think ASOS did a good job of making it theirs. I'm gonna team mine up with a leather jacket and ankle platform boots.

Spotted: Men in leopard print...

I don’t know how to feel about this one. On one hand I like that these men are branching out and trying bold prints such as this one but it seems like there is a (very) thin line between what looks good and what looks bad. Take Kanye West for example, in my opinion he gets away with this one (barely) as you can tell that he wanted to fling on something to brighten up his otherwise dull outfit. My real issue with this is that it looks a bit tight, marl grey tops and sweat patches don’t mix!

Not quite leopard print but Diddy's get up just scream's out 'African uncle' to me. I bet its silk too.

And you don't need me to tell you that this is a straight up no!

Spring Dreams...

I'm glad I looked through last week's Grazia (free courtesy of work) because I came across the most idillic outfit for spring. Double denim, burnt mustard blazer finished off with leopard print accessories... simple but effective! The jacket is £89.99 (!!) from Zara, which is a bit steep for me so I'm just waiting for H&M to do a cheaper version...or until I cave in and buy it.

Dress Down Review: StylistPick

After discovering the Elva hi tops on la fashion folie's blog was from StylistPick, I had to see for myself what else they had to offer. Everyone must of seen the advert with Cheryl Cole plugging her range but apart from that I had never heard of the brand. It is pretty easy to sign up, they ask you 20 questions (mostly referring to celebrities's styles) to determine what kind of style you have. A day later you are sent a link to your 'showroom' where there will be a selection of shoes that are picked out for you and luckily for me the hi tops were in mine!

Every shoe is £39.99 regardless of the style (apart from Cheryl Cole's range, go figure) and with the first purchase you get £10 off. Now this all seems too good to be true so I bit the bullet and ordered them on a Thursday night… and they arrived Saturday! This is fast for free delivery! That's basically next day delivery for free. Just because of the price I was dubious of the style/ materials/ fit but I have to say I am seriously surprised.

When you first open the box it coms in a bag as if you've gone out shopping. The despatch note/ invoice comes in a card and the shoes are individually wrapped so you know they have never been worn before (unlike when you visit the office- don't worry I used to work for them). Also I got a free lip balm which was a pleasant surprise (and actually good quality).

The shoes themselves do not feel like plastic and have a bit of texture to them and I loving the faux suede tip. Overall I'm impressed with the service and the product and there would be no reason why I wouldn't buy from them again and at a set price of £39.99 who could blame me!

Dress Down Style: Ashley Madekwe

You might recognise fellow Nigerian Ashley from 'The Secret diary of a Call Girl' but I didn't know what a personal style icon she would become to me! I stumbled across her blog and was struck by her stylish outfits and was instantly jealous of her 'just threw it on' look...

It's clear from this selection that she shows off her legs more than anything else and she makes the most of it (note: style resolution) with short dresses, mini skirts and enviable heels. Mixing high street with designer, Ashley 's style is on point like a decimal (sorry I heard that and had to use it).

All pictures used are from her personal blog Ring My Bell so check it out!

Personal Style Resolutions

Happy New Year!(when do you stop saying that?) Now, I gave up making up resolutions a couple of years ago simply because like most people I don't keep to them but I will make an exception for my personal style. I have come up with a list of my style resolutions to help get my 2012 off to the right start:

1. Wear more lipstick - Lipstick not only brightens up my face but also my outfit and my colour of choice is Ruby Woo by MAC, which pretty much suits anyone. But for the winter time, I'm warming up to Beguiled by Topshop which is actually very good quality and only £8!

2. Introduce more colours - Prints or block, I need to start mixing it up. I'm already closely acquainted with leopard print but I aim to delve into other types. Solange shows off both colour and print in Boxing Kitten, with their use of African print.

3. Keep up the hair growth challenge - Since starting my personal challenge, I have seen progress and I aim to get a proper top knot this time next year! I'll just look at this picture for hair inspiration... *sigh*.

4. Be a show off - When I say show off I mean showing off my best features. I think mine are my legs so I'll be digging out my leather shorts and skater skirts more often.

5. Invest not waste - Handbags, shoes and bags will be seeing more of my money this year (apart from my beloved jackets). A statement necklace can do wonders for a white t-shirt and jeans outfit.
